Review: I got the 3-pack. Virus 1 is 100% necessary to play the game. You can't play without it. Virus 2 and Virus 3 are expansion packs. You cannot play the game with only Virus 2 or Virus 3. You must have Virus 1 to play. Virus 3 is a Halloween version that only contains about... 15 cards? The box is basically empty. Virus 2 was a good expansion pack though. One note: Virus 1 came with English instructions, but Virus 2 and 3 did not. I had to search online for English instructions. Minus 1 star for that. Luckily, none of the cards have any words on them so you don't have to worry about having to translate anything on the cards.
